-and-
The State of the Art in Open Source Search
In this Two-Part Webinar.
Presenters: InfoCurators' founder Kevin
Hannon and George Everitt,
founder of Applied Relevance
This Webinar will teach you how to make your content more "findable". Good
content can be strategic to an organization. Whether it is for your salesforce
or for your HR staff, product development or marketing, having the right
information at the right time can translate into closed deals and higher
profits. But content can only be used if it can be found.

- Part 1: Content Discoverability Through Metadata
How to publish content on your organization's Intranet,
Extranet or Internet that will be found by the employees, business partners
or customers more easily. Using real-world examples, we will demonstrate
how and why content is lost or found.
You will learn how to publish content strategically so that it can be
found internally by employees or "Googled" by your current and potential
customers.
We will discuss the benefits of using automated metadata tools. We will
cover how to make the most out of your enterprise-level Web publishing
tools. We will also cover how to achieve world-class results without these
tools.
- Part 2: State of the Art in Open Source Search
Open Source Search software has come a long way in the past couple of
years. From humble beginnings as a Java-only search library, the ubiquitous
Lucene and now Solr and Nutch provide a powerful enterprise class search
engine that rivals the proprietary systems in terms of performance, flexibility
and support.
This presentation will provide an overview of how these new open source
applications compare with commercial enterprise search engines.
While Solr is not necessarily better than any one commercial search engine,
the fact that it is open source, transparent and very well supported by
the Apache community makes it an attractive option for organizations looking
to minimize costs and still provide fast, stable, accurate search.
Topics Include:
- Overview of Lucene and Solr
- Features, Advantages and Drawbacks of Solr
- Who uses Solr?
- Who should and should not use Solr?
- The future of Solr
- October date to be announced shortly!

This Webinar will walk you through the concepts and practice of developing
and utilizing metadata and taxonomies. The challenge for most people is to
understand the relationship between these two, what each is for and how they
interact and why. We will discuss taxonomy and metadata best practices and
demystify both.

We have designed this session to be technology-neutral, so whether you
are using Verity, Plumtree, Endeca or any other technology, you will be
able to apply what you have learned.
We will provide real-world examples of creating, managing and implementing
metadata and taxonomies. We will discuss how to plan and implement metadata
and taxonomy projects so that you get it right the first time. We will also
discuss how to fix a project that may have been poorly implemented or has
simply gotten off track.
If you are planning a taxonomy or metadata project or if you currently
have responsibility for taxonomies and/or metadata in your organization,
you should attend this session. Our Webinar will provide you with the information
you need to prepare for a taxonomy project, how best to organize the project
team and what to watch out for once you begin.
